Play Coverage Example: Marion 2010
OVERVIEW: We take a a variety of portraits: group photos the cast, group photo of the crew, “Head Shots” of the actors & main groups. The school orders 8×10 photos of the leads and main group photos for display cabinet. We also take individual photos of the actors who want photos. These images are used in several ways: put on the school’s broadcast channel, added to our photo gallery where people can view and order additional copies and post them to our Facebook page. During the final dress rehearsal with take hundreds of action photos. The school purchases a set of 8×10 images for the leads and everyone has an opportunity to purchase portraits of themselves and/or groups of their friends. We make all these images available on a CD that the school guarantees a minimum purchase of 20 CDs at $10 each.

Once these are done we take photos of the actors who want individual and/or group photos of. It’s a great opportunity to check out the costumes too.

We have a nice system we use when photographing a play:
1. Order forms (click here to see a sample) are handed out about a week before the photo shoot, a parent Coordinator’s name is on the order form. 2. Actors hand in the order forms to the Coordinator a day or two before the photo session. 3. The Coordinator removes the checks / cash from the envelopes and notes ‘paid’ on the order forms and puts the order forms in alphabetical order. 4. On the day of the photo session, we set up on the stage, about 45 minutes before the rehearsal wraps up. 5. Students pick up their order forms from the Coordinator and hands them to the photographer’s assistant when it’s their turn, the assistant writes the file number on the order form. 6. Groups and leads are photographed first, then everyone else. 7. Another parent volunteer summarizes the order forms on a master list. 8. We print and deliver the photos about 2 days after the session and make them available for the additional uses.
